South Florida Engagement Photo Locations

Your engagement session is one of the best parts of wedding planning. It's relaxed, it's just the two of you, and it's a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day. The location sets the mood, so it's worth choosing well.

We're Topflash Photography, a wedding and lifestyle studio serving West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and all of South Florida and the surrounding cities. Here are ten public places across Miami, Fort Lauderdale and the West Palm Beach area that work beautifully for engagement photos. For each one we've included the best time of day and what to know about permits.

Permit rules and fees change. We checked each location's official website in September 2026. Please confirm with the location before your session, and we're happy to help.

Miami-Dade

1. Vizcaya Museum & Gardens (Coconut Grove)

Why it works: Formal Italian-style gardens, stone staircases, fountains and Biscayne Bay views. It's a natural fit if you love a classic, romantic, old-world look, and it's a place we've photographed. Best time: Soon after opening, before the gardens get busy, or late afternoon for softer light. Regular portrait permit holders arrive between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Permit and fee: A portrait photography permit is required: $250 on weekdays and $350 on weekends (gardens only), with a $25 non-refundable deposit to reserve online. Permits cover up to 5 people including the photographer, are issued rain or shine, and open about 4 to 6 weeks ahead. (Vizcaya: Photography & Filming)

2. South Pointe Park (Miami Beach)

Why it works: Ocean, a long pier walk, palm trees and wide-open sky at the southern tip of Miami Beach. It feels breezy and modern. Best time: Sunrise for calm, empty scenes, or the hour before sunset for warm light. Permit and fee: Professional photography on City of Miami Beach streets, beaches and parks needs a Film & Print "Citywide" permit. The city charges no permit fee. You'll need a notarized indemnity agreement and a $1 million liability insurance certificate, and you should apply at least 3 business days ahead. (City of Miami Beach: Citywide Permits)

3. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (Coral Gables area)

Why it works: Lush tropical greenery, palms, lakes and shady paths. It's great for a natural, garden-party feel. Best time: Sessions must happen between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Shady paths and tree canopy help soften the midday sun. Permit and fee: A photography permit is required for engagement sessions. Schedule 7 to 10 days ahead (no walk-ins), and note that regular admission tickets don't cover it. Fairchild doesn't publish the portrait permit price online, so ask for the current fee when you schedule. (Fairchild: Filming & Photography)

4. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (Key Biscayne)

Why it works: A historic lighthouse, sea-oat dunes and a quiet beach just minutes from the city. Best time: Sunrise on the beach, or late afternoon near the lighthouse. Permit and fee: Professional shoots need a park-approved permit, 24 hours' notice, and an insurance certificate. The park's posted form lists a $75 plus tax daytime photo fee plus park entrance fees, and may require an off-duty ranger. That form is older, so call the park office (305-361-8779) to confirm current fees and requirements. Dunes are off-limits. Broward County

5. Bonnet House Museum & Gardens (Fort Lauderdale)

Why it works: A historic estate with a colorful courtyard, tropical gardens and a relaxed, artistic vibe, tucked between the beach and the Intracoastal. Best time: During the individual photography window, which falls in the late morning to mid-afternoon. Look for open shade in the gardens. Permit and fee: No reservation needed. Individual photography in the courtyard and gardens costs $30 per person, paid at the Welcome Center, Tuesday to Sunday. No props, wardrobe changes or garment bags are allowed. Bonnet House's own pages list the window as starting at 11 a.m. and ending at either 3 or 4 p.m., so check before you go. (Bonnet House: Film & Photo Access)

6. Fort Lauderdale Beach and Las Olas Boulevard

Why it works: You get two looks in one session: the beach and wave wall by the water, then Las Olas for palm-lined sidewalks and a city-chic feel. Best time: Sunrise on the beach, which faces east over the Atlantic, then a walk on Las Olas while the light is still soft. Permit and fee: Film permits for Fort Lauderdale and Broward County are handled by Film Lauderdale. There is no permit fee, but you'll need a liability insurance certificate, and most requests take at least 3 business days. Film Lauderdale publishes a step-by-step guide for portrait photographers. (Film Lauderdale: Permit Information; City of Fort Lauderdale: Film Permitting)

Palm Beach County

7. Worth Avenue (Palm Beach)

Why it works: Elegant storefronts, Mediterranean architecture, hidden courtyards (the "vias") and plenty of palm trees. We photographed a modern bridal portrait on Worth Avenue, and it's just as lovely for couples. Best time: Weekday mornings before the shops get busy, or early evening. Permit and fee: The Town of Palm Beach requires a commercial filming permit ($1,500 plus $1,000 per day) for commercial photography on public property. Personal and family shoots are exempt if they last up to 1 hour, have 15 or fewer people and use hand-held equipment only. Ask the Town Clerk's office (561-838-5416) whether your session qualifies. Some courtyards are private property, so ask first. (Town of Palm Beach: Permits, Filming)

8. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens (Delray Beach)

Why it works: Peaceful Japanese gardens with bonsai, stone paths, bridges and a lake. It's calm and timeless, and it looks different from anything else in South Florida. Best time: Private photo sessions run outside regular hours, which often means softer morning or evening light and nearly empty gardens. Permit and fee: Engagement sessions need a private photography session booked with Morikami's Facility Rental Department: $250 plus 7% tax for two hours for up to three guests (the photographer counts), plus a $100 refundable security deposit. During regular hours only small hand-held cameras are allowed. (Morikami: Photography and Videography)

9. Mounts Botanical Garden (West Palm Beach)

Why it works: The garden has 25 garden areas, from tropical plantings and flowering borders to a gazebo and a lawn with Lake Orth behind it. You get lots of variety without leaving the grounds. Best time: Morning, soon after the 9 a.m. opening, for softer light and fewer visitors. The garden is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last entry 3 p.m.), and closed Mondays. Permit and fee: Photo shoots need an advance reservation. The fee is $250, which covers up to 3 adults plus the photographer, and each extra guest is $25. Drones aren't allowed. Book by emailing info@mounts.org or calling 561-233-1757. (Mounts Botanical Garden: Photo Shoots; Mounts: hours and address)

10. Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens (West Palm Beach)

Why it works: Monumental brick sculptures, lush tropical plantings and winding paths in a quiet garden near the Intracoastal. It's artistic and a little unexpected, and perfect for couples who want something different. Best time: Mid-morning after the 10 a.m. opening, or later in the afternoon when the tree canopy softens the light. The gardens are open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., October through June. Call ahead for summer hours. Permit and fee: Casual non-flash photography is allowed, but commercial photography needs advance permission and a fee. The fee isn't published online, and adult admission is $15. Call 561-832-5328 before your session to get permission and the current fee. Tips for a Great Engagement Session

  • Plan around the light. The hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset are the most flattering. Beaches facing east, like Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale Beach, are especially good at sunrise.
  • Plan for 2 to 3 hours. That's how long our engagement sessions typically last. It leaves time for two looks or two nearby spots without rushing.
  • Check permits early. Some locations need 3 to 10 days' notice, and a few, like Vizcaya, release dates only weeks ahead. Location permit fees are paid by the couple. We'll help you figure out what's needed.
  • Pick one or two spots, not five. Driving eats into your session time. Pairing a garden with a nearby beach or street works well.
  • Dress for the setting. Flowy fabrics suit the beach, and tailored looks suit Worth Avenue or Las Olas. Coordinate your colors instead of matching exactly. Several gardens don't allow outfit changes on-site, so arrive dressed.
  • Have a rain plan. Summer afternoons often bring storms. Morning sessions are usually safer, and some permits are non-refundable, rain or shine.
  • Bring the essentials: water, blotting papers, comfortable shoes for walking between spots, and your ring cleaned and ready for close-ups.
  • Relax. We'll guide you through every pose. Most of your favorite photos will come from the moments in between.
